They say it takes a village to raise a child.
These days it is getting harder and harder to have a ‘village’. With our busy lives and commitments, it is hard to find the time. And how do we teach our kids to find their ‘village’?
As humans we are wired for connection. Community is needed. It is so important not only for our kids to be a part of a community, but also us. To have people that support and encourage us, to offer help when needed and someone to cheer us on.
“The strongest finding in positive psychology is that our relationships with other people have the greatest impact on our happiness and mental health. This principle is true for children and teenagers as well as adults.”
Putting yourself out there to make new friends doesn’t come naturally to all people though. It is something that can be taught, to kids and adults alike.
I have included an article from the Parenting Ideas website, they have a wealth of information about the reasons we need community and how to help our kids with this.
